Diamond Saj warns Emmerson & Innocent
‘Corruption E Do So’ star Daddy Saj has cautioned his colleague musicians to be conscious of what they sing and be ready for the consequences of their lyrics and messages.
Saj, who was speaking exclusively to Salonejamboree through Skype video on many issues surrounding his career, now lives in New York, USA, with his American wife Ann Norman.
The couple hooked up when Norman was working as a communication specialist for the UNDP office in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
“We are happily living together,” said Saj.
The KORA exceptional artist took the opportunity to react to allegations of his involvement in election fraud during his country’s Presidential and Parliamentary elections in 2007. When Saj relocated to the US rumor had it that he went into self exile because of the allegations.
“That was very derogatory,” said Saj. “After the elections, I remained doing business as usual in Sierra Leone for nearly six months. Since 2003, I didn’t spend more than six months in my country. I was moving in and out on music trips. One of my ultimate goals in life was to get more education overseas and when I got the opportunity it was all right for me to leave. I am now doing my bachelor's in Liberal Arts.”
He continued: “Does anyone have evidence of me stealing ballot boxes? It's all about Sierra Leoneans as usual pulling each other down. I have never been a member of SLPP. I supported my best friend, Anthony Navo Jnr, in the Parliamentary elections because I trusted his diligence even though he was with SLPP. I believe I have the right to be associated with whoever I want to.”
Meanwhile, in the United Staes Saj is under a new record management which has thought it fit to change his name from Daddy Saj to Diamond Saj. He said the letter D is relative to Sierra Leone ‘because we have Diamonds and also Diamond is a crossword for ‘forever’ ’.
“In this regard, the letter D- which meant Daddy- has been changed to Diamond: in other words, Diamond Saj or Forever Saj from Sierra Leone representing for life. I am the pioneer of Sierra Leone hip-hop,” said Saj.
In fact, under his new management, Saj has already released a new single that accuses the President of Sierra Leone of operating a Government that is made up mainly of family and friends.
“The reason for such accusation on my President is that a lot of murmuring from the APC core has been going on that most of the important positions in the present Government are being kept only for relatives and close friends and college colleagues from Magburaka,” Saj said.
Saj said Sierra Leone is far behind the 21st century and sees no sense in both parties (APC and SLPP) fighting to take credit for Bumbuna electricity as an achievement to the people.
“Well I doubt, I believe because electricity is a necessity for every country and should not be a political commodity or service. Most citizens will agree with me that it's not time for any political party to take reward for anything until there are enough physical and political changes to count on,” Saj said.
Regarding his fellow musicians in the thick of it all, Saj said he does not blame any of them. He said due to hardship and fear, politicians thrive through the talents of innocent young people.
“Through that they (politicians) disguise in between the social atmosphere to protect their evil deeds from being exposed. However, whatever Emmerson and Innocent do to support their surrogates I hope they are well conscious about the repercussions and ready for the future ride.”
Saj is working on a new album which he says will definitely be out this year. He said he’s fully involved in music recording and performances allover the States, Canada and UK at the same time.
The AWOL best artist says he’ll be back in Sierra Leone this year also.
“I have been travelling to other countries but I did not go back to Sierra Leone because my fans want me to return only if I have an album done for them to celebrate and listen to...”
He said he hopes for unity to reign among all tribes and political parties in Sierra Leone ‘so that we all can collectively rebuild our great nation once again... ‘
“Division will divide us and create an environment wherein we segregate toward a path of failure... I hope we all can learn from our past mistakes and support each other to grow rather than pulling each other down as we are doing now... I wish and thank all my numerous fans, radio DJ's, friends and family members the best of 2010... FAYAMAMBO!”
