Teteh:The hit-maker

Radio Mt Aureol Interview (Salone) | Just had to do it! | Teteh

He’s credited with the hit list of almost all hip-hop music coming from Sierra Leone in the last decade.

From 'Look am wit di eye' and ‘Supa Laj’ by Supa Laj, ‘Warrior’, ‘Let it Show’, and ‘Mr. President’ by Kao Denero, ‘Pretty Girl’ by Jay Bonicks to the most recent hit single ‘Money na bank (Remix)’ by L.A.J.

He has also produced for Queen D, Black Sensation, Menace, Blak Don, AB, Shadow, Pupa Bajah, Bow Wow Society and more to great acclaim.

Mohamed Lamin Kargbo aka Teteh tells salonejamboree.com the secret behind his talent is originality and an understanding of his audience.

Inspired by Timbaland, Swizz Beatz and Sahr Issa, Teteh says he didn’t choose hip hop music in particular but does every kind of beat.

“They just inspire me. That’s something I can’t explain. The feeling is inevitable. But again I understand my audience. I give them what they need, not what they want,” he says.

And Teteh believes he has the ability to turn anyone into a star as long as they follow his strategy.

‘She sings for breakfast, sings for lunch, and sings for supper’

Didi Dumbuya, aka Queen D, was born in Freetown, Sierra Leone- the fourth of five children- but she migrated to the United States of America at an early age.

According to her parents, music has always been Queen D’s joy.

“Throughout her early years she made lot of noise in our ears and our neighbors’. She would sing for breakfast, sing for lunch, and sing for supper,” her parents tell salonejamboree.com.

Looking back, Queen D says singing for her parents and neighbors was her first musical lessons. She was greatly influenced by the songs of R&B singers such as Whitney Houston, Brandy, Ace of Base and Maria Carey, and she would often practice their every style of singing.

Being born to a father who had earned a PhD in Political Science and a mother who also earned a Masters degree in same, music was a definite big no for the Queen.

“Like my sisters and brothers who’re also aiming to earn degrees in Political Science and Education, I was expected to carry the same dream. My mind, however, was focused on entertainment,” says Queen D.
