Tyrilia Godson was crowned the Miss. Sierra Leone which was contested by 7 other models recently. Murtala Mohamed Kamara caught up with officially Sierra Leone must beautiful woman, they had a chat on many issues including her relationship status and accusations levied against her that she was favored.  Below is the revealing interview:

Congratulations Mrs. Sierra Leone; Now tell us why do you think you were chosen among the other 7 contestants as Sierra Leone’s most beautiful woman?

Well I believe there are certain criteria’s any beauty queen must posses. I am quite sure that the judges take into considerations most of these criteria’s. To get that crown you must be eloquent in your grammar, stage presentation, and the catwalk counts. These are the difference between a fashion show and a beauty pageant. Mind you, after your coronation you will be seen as an ambassador representing your institution and your country as a whole. I am quite sure the judges took all these into considerations.

How would you respond to claims by one of the contestants that you were favored by the Judges?

I think the judges will only favor you if you know what you are up to couple with some of the reasons I stated earlier. If you are on the right track they will surely favor you.
Can you recall you collapsing on stage just after this announcement: ‘Tarila Godson is the new Mrs. Sierra Leone’ If yes what was responsible for that?

Well... I couldn’t say yes. It came as a surprise to me, I found myself at Vinell (Congo cross) hospital at around 9: am in the morning. I was also happy when I finally got conscious of myself at the hospital when I saw my family and friends besides me. I tried to ask certain questions but they deliberately refused to answer me at that time. I can still recall feeling sharp pain on the right side of my chest during the contest. I tried to send signals to the members of the audience and the other contestants but I guess they couldn’t understand me. I was upset; I felt the pain coming inside me. That’s all I can recall.

Have you been experiencing pains like that before?

Not really, but in actual fact before the day of the competition I was unable to use my legs but it got cured before the competition. I was exhausted, confusing and I thought what was going to happen to me because those were not my normal performance on stage. I thank God when I got the news the next day that I was able to make it.

Is the pain some how associated with excitement?

No! After collapsing I didn’t know anytime that happens on that night. I didn’t know that I was even crowned the Miss. Sierra Leone. Honestly, it has nothing to do with excitement.

Is modeling a career or you are just into it for fun?

Modeling to me is a good giving talents and I think I have to nurture it. It is sad that in this part of the world there is no hope for it. It has to be career but you must have an alternative for it. It’s a great field which I intend to pursue.

Your Name Tarila Godson; are you 100% Sierra Leonean?

I am a Sierra Leonean born to a Krio father and a Temne Mother with a West Indies Background. I got that name from my grandfather himself a West Indies.
Does it have any meaning ‘Tarila'

The meaning of ‘Tarila’ is: ‘It brings luck’

What are you focusing on as the New Sierra Leone beauty Queen?

Before I won the Miss.Freetown in 2006 and I set up a charity which caters for street children. I think it’s a bright idea which I intend to continue with. I also intend to embark on the world Miss. World malaria campaign. We were supposed to travel to the provinces but I am not too sure if that arrangement is possible considering the local elections which is drawing very close and every one is focusing on that at the moment.

It was reported that you held a meeting with Sierra Leone’s first lady recently. What were the discussions?

We discuss our future plans with the other between queens. She has accepted us as her own children and she is willing to support. She has a vast knowledge on malaria, poverty reduction strategies, and advocacy. As a mother of the nation coupled with her experience there is a lot I can learn from her. I must mention that she has been very useful since I met her.

What is your relationship status; are you still single and readily available or you have already found Mr. Right?

(Laughs) I am not searching and I don’t think any woman should search for a man. You have to sit and wait till Mr. Right comes. I had one before but we were having problem with this modeling stuff. He had this notion that as a Model you have to date lots of guys, you need to be seen at night clubs every now and then which is absolutely not true. I have a focus; I have my education which is paramount to me and also my modeling career.  You don’t need to date guys to be a queen just believe in yourself and what you are capable of doing. I have someone in my life now although we do get misunderstanding most times but I think he has proven himself very nice to me.

Status or looks which one is more important to you in a Man?

Status? Yes it’s a must you have to have it. Looks is nothing status.
I think I prefer status.

What does it takes to win your heart?

(Smile…) Difficult to say, mmm…You have to be very religious, caring, and honest. These are the most important elements I look for and you don’t need to be hard on me also.

What annoys you most?

Honestly, I am hot tempered and I hate seeing things going on the wrong way, I hate repeating myself. Stupid things annoy me most.

Now tell us were do you normally go for shopping around town?

If I can afford the money I will prefer these supermarkets and boutiques but in the past i have always preferred these ‘ Ju men’ or work around with their wears. They have very good stuffs with good prices also. They normally hangout around Central Freetown and interestingly they have been dressing me all this while.

How has this celebrity status changed your life?

Well… I have been exposed long before the Miss. Sierra Leone contest. I have met with different modeling agencies within Africa and beyond. They have offered me contracts in the past but you don’t know who to trust so I have to take my time. I always discuss these issues with my brothers, and my manager and they normally give me advices. You can be vulnerable most times which I don’t intend to. I want to portray Sierra Leone as a patriotic person who is wishing well for her country.
